Great Taekwondo performance at the Yonsei Campus

Yonsei students on the campus

My Yonsei class

Yesterday Yonsei University gave us a brief glimpse into the colorful Korean culture and put up a nice performance for its students together. Besides that there was the 20th annual Korean language writing contest for foreign nationals, which of course i couldn’t participate this year. After the writing contest hundreds of Yonsei students, my class and me enjoyed various shows but the one performance that catched my attention the most was the Taekwondo performance!

Taekwondo is a traditional Korean martial art and probably the national sport of South Korea. In Hangul you write Taekwondo like this 태권도 and is made up of Tae 태 (foot), Kwon 권 (hand) and Do 도 (art). So you can loosely translate 태권도 as “the art of the foot and fist” or “the art of kicking and punching”. After a small warm-up the fighters showed us some really nice fighting scenes. Especially the girls were real badass! 😀 I also uploaded some videos on my Gogimandu Facebook Fanpage, so you can watch two of them here and here. The Taekwondo show was pretty impressive and my personal highlight of the day on the Yonsei campus! 감사합니다 연세대학교!

On some other blog, KLI students complained that it was hard to get involved in activities with the rest of campus (outside of the language school). Have you been able to do that? Or is it hard for you, too?

Unfortunately, that’s true indeed.. it is difficult to connect outside the language school.. i guess especially because of the language barrier.. but you’ll get a language buddy after graduating to the 2nd level.. don’t know how helpful this is..

Got something to say? Go for it!
